For most of the sailors and researchers, beeing on a tall ship is a totally new experience. But not for 68-year-old Terje Karterud.

The week before departure, Statsraad Lehmkuhl was moored in Pollen in Arendal, ready to embark on the One Ocean Expedition.

The researchers and fellow sailors who will be on the first leg came on board on Thursday 19 August. The first afternoon included drilling in safety procedures and information about the routines on board.

Experienced

For most of them, life on the banner, the room where sailors eat and sleep close together in hammocks, is something completely new. But not for 68-year-old Terje Karterud.

- I have sailed with Statsraaden 12-15 times before, he says.

Karterud will also be on the leg around Cape Horn.

- It is the highlight for everyone, but it is cool to be involved from the start. This is the beginning of something big, Karterud smiles.

First night

It is glorious weather in Arendal, and great to enjoy life on deck. A perfect setting for making friends with the people you are going to share the adventure with.
